The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and my overall experience at Savills. The team and everyone in the office was friendly and welcoming. Each day was fairly varied and I was given the opportunity to spend time out of the office at client meetings and presentations. I was provided with lots of information regarding current issues in the sectors and future career opportunities. The experience gave me an excellent insight into what I should expect in future careers.
Everyone within the team appreciated each piece of work I did for them. People often asked what my opinion was on projects they were working on and listened genuinely when I made comments on them,
Everyone within the team was very supportive. Any questions or queries I had were answered in detail. If I was ever stuck on a piece of work everyone was more than happy to point me in the right direction of what I should be doing or what step to take next. I also received constructive feedback on my pieces of work which allowed me to improve as the process went on.
Most days were fairly busy, and if I ever ran out of work I could always find someone who I could assist on their current projects.
At first just a little to ease me into the workload and allow me to find my feet, As the placement progressed I was given more responsibility, and was given tasks and deadlines which were to be completed solely under my own guidance.
I feel that the skills I learned and developed during my placement have set me up excellently for further study and a career in the planning sector. I believe the practical skills I learned during my time at Savills (such as undertaking planning appraisals, strategic land searches, and liaising with clients) have given me a broad insight into what a future career in planning will consist of, and I hope to utilise these skills in both my education and workplace.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was welcoming and relaxed. There were points when it was quieter and more focused when everyone had more projects to work on and times when it was more relaxed and chatty.
The placement was well organised. Both my graduate mentor and director I was working with organised lots of things for me to do so I could get the best experience possible from my time at work.
All members of the team took the time and effort to talk to me and teach me anything useful connected to projects I was working on. They were also more than happy to take the time to talk to me about any other topics or questions I had about Savills and other departments.
Very appealing. Savills evidently invests a lot of time and commitment into its graduates, and the company will be my priority when applying for graduate jobs.
The Culture
There were only two other placement students during my time at Savills. However we did socialise and went out for lunch a couple of times.
I lived at home so did not spend anything on living costs. Otherwise living and socialising is fairly cheap in the area, and there is a variety of places to eat and drink.
I am from the area so already know the nightlife well. Although I did not experience the nightlife during the placement, there is a variety of clubs and pubs to go to.
There was not a lot on outside of work during my placement however this may have been due to the time of the year.
