The Role
I very much enjoyed my placement, lots of opportunities to work with different teams and we were encouraged to meet managers and network around the firm.
I had a fantastic line manager who knew that I would do well if left to solve problems on my own. This was great and made me feel like I was making real progress, and I wasn't asking what to do next every half an hour.
A great level of support and guidance - sometimes the best thing is less guidance so that you learn for next time, but if I had questions or needed reassurance my colleagues and line manager were always there to help.
There was always lots to do, but we were given plenty of training in time management so it never seemed overwhelming. I worked full days (8-6) but enjoyed it and was productive during this time.
Plenty of responsibility - to the extent that as a group of graduates we were tasked with pitching the business to a new client.
My degree was unrelated in subject matter but the skills I learnt were in the main transferable to any other business, and the training in professional skills such as time management, presenting and networking was absolutely invaluable.
The Company
Professional and an environment in which I could get work done. However, my colleagues were friendly and chatty, and there was always someone to have a coffee or lunch with.
Very well organised, plenty of training and it felt like the right length to get stuck in and experience the working environment.
There was a great deal invested in training and development with an intensive few days at the beginning and a continuous programme throughout the duration of the internship.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Now they are good, as the company has recently been through extensive restructuring.
The Culture
There was a great dynamic between the others on the internship, and also with graduates who had been at the company for a year or two.
It's Canary Wharf so it is expensive, but there are lots of options and you could save money by bringing your own lunch, coffee etc.
Great! Lots of bars, restaurants etc - West India Quay is a great place for afterwork drinks to meet anyone and everyone who works nearby.
Yes - I got involved with the running club and went along to their weekly training session. Good to meet other people and do something physical.
