    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship. It was a great insight into what working for a world renowned professional services fim is like and there was also a great deal of opportunity to get involved in multiple different things.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so. Its always a two way thing, so the more you get involved, the more your colleagues will notice this, appreciate this and think of you when they needs things to be done.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is always sufficient support to help you. PwC is a very open environment where you don't feel afraid to ask silly questions- if anything it is encouraged. They say "no question is a silly question". Right from the beginning we are encouraged to consult people around us for anything that we are struggling with. There is an impressive support system set up for you when you arrive, namely, a buddy, people manager, project manager as well as all of your other collagues.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This always varies on a day to day basis. If you don't have lots of work on any one day, there is opportunity to go out and seek work. Even if you feel you don't have much "client" work, there are lots of internship tasks to be getting involved with, the Dragon's Den Project and a plethora of E-Learns to educate yourself with. It is difficult to run out of things to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This depends on the size of your team and your project. I worked on two different projects over the course of my internship. Throughout the first, it was a very large team spread across the country and because it was a very sensisitve project, it was difficult for them to delegate much work to me. On the flipside, for my second project, the team consisted of myself, 2 senior managers and a director. Due to this, and the very short duration of the project, I was able to witness the real consulting work that happened on this project first-hand and was able to see it through from start to finish.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that there are lots of transferable skills that are enhanced over the course of the internship. Completing an internship also helps to give you focus and motivation for your final year of university whilst simultaneously providing you with a great insight into the type of work you do in your chosen line of service. It is essentially a fantastic opportunity for you to decide if this is the firm for you and whether or not this is a career path you can see yourself embarking upon.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Open, friendly and enjoyable. It is a very flat structure at PwC rather than being hierarchical, and so it is very easy to strike up a conversation with anybody. People are always willing to go out of their way to help you.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship has a well thought out structure.Starting from the induction at the beginning, where you meet all of the interns across the UK. You then go back to your Base office and have regular meetings with your People Manager and Buddy to see how you are getting on. There is also a Dragon's Den style project which is something additional to work on during the internship, for which you will have a final event for.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a training/induction residential at the start of the internship which teaches you about PwC, gets you accustomed with the PwC environment and is a great way of networking with peers. This means that you have a small network already set up in case you travel to other PwC offices, which is extremely useful. Aditionally, PwC is very willing to invest in your learning and experiences in other fieds of interests that you may have.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing! There are sufficient graduate positions for each interns and it is only upwards from there!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, definitely! Being in a regional office like Birmingham helps becuase the teams are closely-knit and there is lots of interaction between senior and junior staff, even on social events. From my experience, we had regular drinks with the other interns, team socials such as go-karting, networking sessions with people from other companies and night's out! It mainly depends on yourself and how willing you are to get involved. There are plenty of opportunities, it is just about whether you take those on.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • This depends on where your base office is and is one of the advatages of working in the regions, since it is relatively cheap.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Birmingham is the second city of the UK so very good- lots of restaurants, bars and nightclubs!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are so many opportunities to get involved in a plethora of evemts. These include night's out, drinks, networking sessions, triathlons, outdoor activities and sports, to name a few.
