    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was a great way to get a feel of both the work carried out by the firm and its people.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt as valued as I expected I would be in the context of a vacation scheme. I was trusted with various tasks, though not complicated. Firm members also always showed interest in my background and my studies which is always appreciated.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee buddies were both extremely helpful and everyone I did work for took the time to sit down with me and explain things, which I really appreciated. My supervisors also gave me useful feedback.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main skill I developed was networking which I think is extremely helpful for the future. I also gained a much better understanding of commercial law as a whole.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I thought it was well structured with 'focus-on sessions' spread out over the two weeks and regular socials. I also liked seeing two different departments although spending only a week in a department meant contribution was limited and we had to move on to another just as we were getting truly comfortable where we were. Overall I was impressed by how structured it was.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly and I never felt out of place. Partners and associates as well as trainees made themselves approachable, and all the vacation scheme students got along well.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A good amount of time as I had weekly appraisals with my supervisors and there was always someone to help and answer questions if I struggled with the work I was given. Trainees and other team members also spontaneously offered me advice during the scheme.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It was very informative thanks to all the people who took time to describe and explain their role in the firm to us(vacation schemers). It helped me get an idea of the work I would be doing as a trainee solicitor at Taylor Wessing, and what initiatives I could take (sports, socials, pro bono). Within the departments I sat in I also got further insight in this.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight provided illustrations of the company culture promoted by Taylor Wessing and which I was familiar with prior to the vacation scheme.

    3/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Discussing options with people from the firm was the most helpful. The work itself was enjoyable although I don't think it represents what I would be doing on a typical day as a trainee.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • £275/week

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were quite a few: networking lunch on the first day, welcome drinks, one social every week, "focus-on" sessions by each practice group, farewell lunch on the last day and goodbye drinks.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Well organised and catered for. The firm made a special effort, we went to Urban Golf and Bowling.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, there are opportunities to get very involved in pro bono as well as sports events.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely.
