The Role
I enjoyed it very much so! There timetable set up for my 5 weeks was very varied and allowed me to get to know different teams from different departments. I especially enjoy going out to client sites and developing relationships with the finance teams I met.
The team ade me feel very welcomed and I was well supported. They were hapy to answer any questions I had and they didn't spoon feed me; something I really valued! I wasn't the tea boy or the filing guy but rather I contributed to the overall success of the team.
The support I recived was large and also stretching. I was given tasks to do and questions were always welcomed and encouraged. They were interested in me as a personal and wanted me to achieve my potential through a personal development plan.
I had a range of tasks to do and was also able to work independantly on jobs. I had time for my project which involed putting together the intern yearbook and time to write my presentation on 'dynamic organisations are the enging for growth in a vibrant economy - discuss'. As well as this i helped with the audit teams performing tests and meeting clients.
I was intially given lower level jobs but as I worked hard and showed enthusiasm I was given harder jobs. I was invited to the FD club where I got the oppotunity to speak to local FDs and represent the firm that way.
My knowledge of accountacy has gone through the roof during this internship. I will use this new knowlegde to help me as a pursue a career with grant thornton and in accountancy. Also I will try to take extra modules if possible to greater understand it.
The Company
Friendly but professional. The team knew what they were there to do and got it done but this didn't stop us having a laugh and bonding. The summer party was especially good fun as we were all able to 'let our hair down' and enjoy socialising outside of work.
Very well organisaed. On the first day I arrived I had my timetable clearly explained to me and I had a meeting with my people manager to decide on the goals for the 5 weeks whilst I was there. I then went through a number of orientation tasks before going out on site with the audit team. I also had a midpoint review which was used to assess my performance so far and a final performance review that helped me see what I had achieved.
They fully invested in me and cared about me as a person. As i've said above they quickly sat me down and asked what I wanted to get out of the 5 weeks. They then tailored my timetable around my goals and aspirations to make sure I develop my full potential. I recieved feedback throughout my 5 weeks, in a confidence building style, and was then given scores on how i'd met my goals.

Brilliant. They offer (on average) 95% of their interns jobs at the end of it and so I knew if I worked hard and was enthusiatic they'd be likely to offer me something. They have a great trainee programme that allows you to see a lot of audit, and client's firms, which is something that really appeals to me. I can't wait to join next september!
The Culture
There was the opportunity to organise the summer party, be a part of a fundraings team and play sports with firm. I especially enjoyed the social football the firm ran once a week as this allowed for friendships to develop outside of office hours and it contributed to team building. The summer party was great fun too and allowed for many laughs and lots of networking!
