The Role
I really enjoyed the 2 months. I was assigned to Grant Thornotn's biggest client (Sports Direct) for half of the team. I really enjoyed this - working away from London, in a big team, experiencing a FTSE 100 company. The whole internship was very well organised and I really enjoyed becoming friends with so many people.
Everyone treated me with respect (in line with Grant Thornton's values. Partners would know me by name and no question would be too silly. I would refer to the colleagues I got to know as friends rather than colleagues.
I was assigned a line manager but had far more support than just this. I also had a buddy. Every one I worked with helped me however possible.
I nearly all of the time had something to do, which made me feel like I was actually quite helpful. On the ocassions when I didn't have anything, we had projects to be working on and so there was never really a quiet moment. Even when I was very busy though my manager still let me leave early to go to Wimbledon!
I think I was given as much responsibility as an intern could realistically given. I took ownership for some of the tests that we completed on the clients and was trusted to interact with the client regularly.
I feel like I have learnt a huge amount. The skills I have learnt are particularly relevant for me being an Accounting and Finance student, but the generic lessons learned about organisation and communication (amongst many other things) would benefit anyone.
The Company
I actually spent very little office, as I was mostly at the client site. Here we were in a team of 20 where everyone was very supportive and friendly, and we had some great banter, especially as we would have meals and drinks together every night.
Extremely well organised. On our first day we were given a thorough induction, including a 2 month calendar printout, setting out the exact programme for us. We had been prebooked to various jobs and socials/networking events/conferences had been pre-organised.
Most notably, all interns are put on a two day training course at Bradenham manor. This really helps everyone's presentation skills. There is also lots of on the job training, as no one seems to be too busy to sit down with you and explain something.

Company Parties/Events
I have a granduate job so great!
The Culture
Yes. There were 6 of us on the exact same programme, but about 40 interns across London and about 80 nationally. There was an intern party organised plus many other events which got the interns together.
When I was at Sports Direct for a month in Sheffield, I was put in a hotel and given all meals so that was great. Obviously London for the second month was not so cheap...
Great. Loads of choices of bars/pubs/clubs. Whislt working on Sports Direct we had a great night out in Sheffield.
There is a national football tournament going on as I speak. On the away job the working hours were quite long and so no, but back in London it has been a bit more civilised and so yes.
