About You
Work - During the scheme I was able to get involved in some really high-quality work, and at no point was I asked to photo copy anything! I was kept busy, and everyone was very approachable if I needed to ask questions. People - Everyone at the firm was extremely welcoming, and despite the placement only lasting 2 weeks I was made to feel as part of the team.
I was definitely made to feel like part of the team and did not feel like an inconvenience at all.
There was an excellent balance between being supervised and having the opportunity to complete work independently. I was allowed to get on with tasks on my own, but had the opportunity to ask questions whenever I needed to. I was also encouraged to set objectives for myself at the start of the placement, which proved very useful as it encouraged me to ask to get involved with particular pieces of work,.
The placement confirmed my decision to go into a legal career. The skills required in work are very different from those required whilst studying, which is why it did not help a great amount, but my attention to detail and confidence are areas in which it has helped me.
The Company
It was extremely well organised. The induction day in London was a good introduction to the firm and its values. Following that, it was made very clear what was going on during the placement (such as social events and presentations).
There was a very welcoming and enthusiastic working environment. Everyone at the firm seemed to enjoy the work they were doing, and appeared excited about their prospects for the future.
As it was only a 2 week placement it was more of an insight into the firm than an opportunity for training. However, by having us set objectives I was definitely able to see my improvement throughout the 2 weeks, and they encouraged us to focus on these objectives.
Having the opportunity to spend 2 weeks in a single department certainly gave the chance to witness the peaks and troughs in terms of amount of work that those in a full time role experience regularly.
Over the 2 weeks I obtained an excellent insight into the firms culture. Having the opportunity to get involved social events contributed to this, as it was good to see that colleagues get on well outside of work too.
Extremely valuable. It gave me a good impression of what life in a law firm is really like, and has further motivated me to pursue a career in law.
Everything Else
The pay was more than enough to cover travel and hotel expenses that I incurred.
The firm provided a number opportunities to meet people at all stages of their careers, such as organising a lunch with partners.
The events were fun and extremely well organised. In our first week we went to a pizza making party, and in the second week we went to a comedy club. In addition, I was given the opportunity to take part in other social events with those working there.
Yes, we were given opportunities to take part in social events, and were given extensive presentations on the CRS work that the firm does.
