The Role
I love my Summer Internship. It gave me a great insight into the kind of work Grant Thornton do and how important their people are to them. I was treated as an employee with responsibility which gave me a great opportunity to learn.
I felt very valued by my colleagues who were always there to help me when I needed it and always told me when they were impressed and pleased with the work I was doing. They were always a very social crowd who made me feel included from day one.
I had regular meetings with our Managers who would like to know how we were getting on and if there were any problems which made me feel very comfortable. My Manager would also contact me frequently to check how my Internship was going which made me feel much more at ease.
I was given enough work to keep me busy and occupied. However I was not given so much that I felt under pressure. The balance was perfect as I was still learning and could take my time over tasks that I felt were challenging.
I was given enough responsibility to feel that the work I was doing was a important and to help me learn. Without having this responsibility I would not have been able to understand what the work I was doing really meant, and may not have felt quite as valued.
I feel like I am going into my final year of University with a head start, with a great knowledge of Accounting and the working world. This will also help me with a Graduate job after University as I have already learnt many skills to use in the working world.
The Company
This atmosphere was great in the Southampton office. Everyone was really friendly and made the working day fun and enjoyable. However, there was still the perfect balance, where everyone worked hard and I could concentrate on the work I was doing.
The Internship was organised amazingly. The recruitment team are amazing and planned a great Internship for us. We were never short of things to get involved in. It started from a night in London playing Ping Pong to training at Bradenham Manor. There was many things for us to get involved in such as Fundraising and a Yearbook. The planning that went into this was really great and I really felt like I was a valued part of the firm with many things for me to get involved in.
I was only on a 6 week Internship, however we were sent on a 2 day training course that was extremely helpful. It helped us to develop our presentation skills which built my confidence hugely. Grant Thornton really made me feel that they cared about me and wanted to help me build myself to be the best I can be.

I am holding all hopes on being offered a job with Grant Thornton. I think they are a great firm to work for and I feel they will invest time and money on me to help me grow and learn, as well as making me feel important and valued.
The Culture
During my internship I met up with many other Interns from different offices, which was great to socialise and network. I also made many friends in the Southampton office, going for meals and joining in on the social scene with them which was great.
The costs was as expected in Southampton. I am from this area so knew the price of things - it is definitely much cheaper and affordable that London!
Theres always something going on and it's a great place to socialise and have a fun night out with colleagues.
Many things go on outside of work. For example there was an opportunity to travel to Leeds for a Football tournament. There will always be something going on that you can get involved in that give you a break from work and a chance to get to know your colleagues.
