The Role
Hugley, a great overview of all areas was given via 'lunch and learns'.
I have yet to meet one intimidating character at the firm, all employees are extremely friendly and helpful, all willing to go the extra mile to help you in a time of need, no question/request is too much!
I have been provided with 2 differnet managers to oversee my work and help me when necessary.
I had the perfect work load, there was minimal fiddling of the thumbs and also only a couple of times where i stayed past 6.30pm.
I was given actual work by my managers and not 'intern work' which meant that the work was a lot more interesting and it went to a proper cause and not just to the intern stack. I was also assigned 4 different projects to be undertaken independently and to be made my own. I was given a good level of responsibility which was not too overwhelming.
Gained a further and more detailed understanding about the economy which is extremely interesting to use in my degree (Geography Bsc). Excel skills were also hugely improved which is extremely helpful for whichever line of employment you enter.
The Company
Extremely friendly and chatty!
Brilliant - lots of 'lunch and learns' which provided you with an insight and improved understanding of the different divisions within Fidelity which you otherwise might not have been made aware of. HR set up lots of intern activities and created a number of opportunities for you to meet the current graduates. All interns were given a Graduate 'Buddy' who they could contact with any questions.
During the first week of the internship we underwent excel training and had the dynamics and workings of the investment world explained in detail.

From theh internship the next stage is the graduate scheme (2years), here the interns are looked upon favourably if they have managed to prove themselves during the 8 week internship.
The Culture
HR organised a number of social events between interns and graduates. These ranged from drinks at a local cocktail bar to a 'total wipe out' competition and BBQ.
Relatively expensive, I was based in the City of London so this is not a suprise. Other interns were based outside of London in Kingswood where costs were much lower. Fidelity offered free accomodation to anyone without any which was extremely useful especially since it was situated in London.
Typical for London. Lots of nice bars and restaurants to visit after work.
yes, opportunites were given to join a book club, running team etc
