The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. The weeks were very varied and there was always lots to take part in. During the working weeks I was heavily involved in training and working on important client work, and I had two trips to Bradenham Manor (Grant Thornton's training facility), once for a 2 day training course and once for the two day presentation skills workshop. We also went to Ascot Racecourse for an away day.
I was always given work to do and never made to feel like a hindrance. Everyone was very helpful in being patient and showing me how to do things. The culture of the firm is great in this respect.
Management were always keen to show me how to do things, and involve me in client meetings/business development projects. We were also paired with two associates who would ensure we were ok at all times.
I was never so rushed off my feet that I couldn't stick to the 0900-1730, but I always had things to do and was never sat twiddling my thumbs.
I was 'let loose' on client work with full support and guidance. The structured review system means that any mistakes are rectified, so I was given the 'full experience'.
I was given a two day workshop in presentation skills which is very confidence building. I also learned a lot about Global Mobility Services/Tax/Social Security.
The Company
Always really nice. There's no real hierarchy of seating and offices. Everything is open plan and everyone is generally in a good mood.
We received a timetable of events and this was broadly stuck to. I always knew where I was meant to be, when, and what I had to do.
The company spent a lot of money on all of the training, away days, trips to Bradenham Manor etc.

Company Parties/Events
The internship is structured with a view to recruit you, with you taking part in a presentation at the end to determine your employability.
The Culture
Fellow placement students were out most nights, colleagues were always up for a pint.
It's London! I was fortunate enough to have my student flat available to me, a ten minute walk away. However, I still felt the sting of £5 pints.
The upside of being in London is that there's always stuff to do!
So much to do! There was a football tournament, charity abseiling events, all sorts!
