The Role
It was a great year, I learnt a tremendous amount.
I think towards the end of ,my placement the value that I added was more clear to my colleagues. And as a result I felt more valued and more integrated into the team.
Personal development was a priority in my team.
My workload varied throughout the year. This was due to the nature of my project brief, but also my willingness to take on roles outside my 'day job'.
The biggest difference that I can between Mars and other companies is the amount of responsibility you're given. From managing your own projects, to organising team meetings, you are treated as an employee and not a student.
I think the cross over from my project to my studies will have limited effect; purely because of the nature of my project brief. However the softer skills like communication, organisation etc. will be of real benefit when I return to education.
The Company
Within R&D I had a feeling that morale was quite low at times.
Pretty poor in this regard. The on-boarding process was weak, no social activities or opportunities to get to know the other IP's. Very much left to our own devices, with no support network in place for if the placement wasn't going well.
A huge amount of time and effort was spent in my personal development, and for that I cant thank my line managers enough.

The Culture
Not the best.
Naturally quite high, but the wage was generous.
Within in Slough the nightlife was non-existent.
