The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship! I was given a great deal of responsibility and felt as though I was a valued member of the teams I worked in. My colleagues were friendly and helpful and I learned a lot from them.
The tasks I were assigned weren't menial at all. They were meaningful and as a result, the work I did genuinely mattered. That automatically made me feel valued but the colleagues themselves made me feel that way even more so. They were all prepapred to sit down with me and talk through various tasks I was set to do. The fact they took the time to do that said a lot.
My manager regularly checked up on how I was doing. He also made sure I was assigned to jobs as often as possible so I wasn't sat around in the office very much at all. If I needed his help I knew I could go to him. On one occasion a family member had a hospital appointment and he was very helpful in organising for me to have the afternoon off.
There were times when I didn't have much to do but in the main I was always busy. If there wasn't any client work to do I could do my project work or prepare for my presentation.
A great deal of responsibility. I was sat with a client talking through invoices on my first day on site.
We received training on presentation skills which will be of use to my degree studies. Aside from that, as I study Russian, not much is transferrable to my degree. However, beyond my degree I want to continue pursuing a role in accountancy and so from that respect it was extremely helpful and the stuff I did will pay off.
The Company
It was really chilled out and laidback. Everyone was approachable and smiley. Really nice vibe.
From the induction day down in London on the first day to a trip to the firm's training facility to the final day, it was really well organised. Train tickets and hotels were booked for me. I was assigned jobs weeks in advance so I knew where I would be working. It was great.
The firm sent me to their National Trust property, Bradenham Manor, in High Wycombe for 2 days to receive some training on presentation skills. Accommodation, transport and food was all paid for. That said to me that they really care about their interns and want us to take Grant Thornton seriously. The training was beneficial and I feel like it helped when it came to my own presentation.

I really hope to join back up with Grant Thornton as a graduate
The Culture
I was always invited out for lunch and drinks after work. There was an annual football tournament I took part in. Loads of opportunities.
I lived at home so that was convenient and Liverpool isn't expensive
Liverpool has a superb nightlife
Football tournaments, weekly football sessions, gym, tennis etc.
