The Role
My year at IBM was fantastic. I was able to experience a real corporate environment, in a global company.
Throughout the year, I felt like I was a valued member of my team. I was also given plenty of responsibilities which were crucial to my business area.
Support was perhaps the one area that IBM lacks slightly. I found that most managers are simply too busy to really provide you with the support you need. This is understandable though, as I was working in a real job and was treated like a regular employee. You are given a personal tutor though, who is great with dealing with any personal problems and is generally someone who you can rely on.
My work day was balanced. Some days I was completely swamped with work and others I was free to do extra activities such as giveback, shadowing and attending events.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility and was on calls with some fairly senior managers. I felt this exposure was a huge responsibility, however, it was great to get that experience.
I developed so many skills on my placement. It was great to really put my areas of study to good use and throughout the year, I improved communication, organisation, team-work, problem solving skills, I also improved my attention to detail.
The Company
The atmosphere at IBM was really nice. Everyone is really friendly and it's a nice place to work.
Very well organised.
As a placement student, there aren't a lot of training opportunities. However, as a graduate there are plenty. There are ways of getting around this though, if you really want to do something, the managers will tend to let you.

The Culture
A massive social scene. There are over 100 interns at Southbank!
Expensive as it's London, but I wouldn't have wanted to be based anywhere else.
London & so great nightlife. There's also a bar right next door to Southbank which was always great to grab a drink after work.
Yeah loads. Giveback and events were always on offer to anyone who wanted to get involved. There are loads of sports teams as well which are good fun.
