The Role
Cummins is a very diverse company. I got to work with people from different backgrounds and I have always been treated as family.
My colleagues helped me unleash my potentials and made me believe in myself more.
My team never made me feel like a student and I was assigned major tasks too. At the same time, I always knew they had my back if there is something I am not comfortable about.
Cummins invests in trainings that help develop transferable skills. Product Management on the other hand provides knowledge in different areas of the business allowing me to get a broad perspective of how the business works.
The Company
Diversity is one of Cummins' core values. It is not just said but also seen and felt in the office. Everyone is willing to go the extra mile to help each other and also give back to the community. We also have various events that help boost employee morale. It was never hard to wake up in the morning knowing that as I get to work, I will be surrounded by people I enjoy working with.
Initially we had the opportunity to get to know each other and find accommodation together. Then, during our first week, we had our on-boarding training when we familiarised ourselves to the company. After the on-boarding week, we were divided into three training groups to make sure that we attend more interactive sessions. Each of us had a defined work-plan as guide on what we should aim to achieve during the year.
Cummins has been willing to pay an external company to help us develop transferable business skills. I have also been given the opportunity to travel and visit trade shows in London to be able to familiarise myself to the industry. Whenever I felt the need or curiosity to learn something related to my role, my manager has always been happy to find an effective solution.

My team has instigated the process of having me back as soon as I finish my degree. I also had the opportunity to discuss with different stakeholders and understand what would be the most suitable role for me for when I come back. They tried to understand my next 10 years goal so they could tailor my job description.
The Culture
I managed to build really good relationship with my fellow students and colleagues. We went to France and Belgium for Christmas Market back in December and had the opportunity to get to know each other outside work. We also try to find excuses to go out for meals. We have badminton Mondays when we meet after work to play. The guys also had Football Wednesdays.
I rented a room for a really good price, Cummins also tries to help students in finding accommodation through partnering with reliable estate agents. Car pooling to go to work is also encouraged. There are a lot of budget places to go for food shopping. In terms of socialising, prices are a lot cheaper than London but you can still enjoy yourself.
Although Ramsgate is a bit dull during winter, Canterbury is only 15 minutes away via train. Nightlife in Canterbury is fun and much more popular. However, whenever we wanted to chill for the night, there is a number of pubs in Ramsgate that offer really cheap drinks and with live music from local artists too.
Cummins encourages all employees to do at least 4 hours of community service. This can be doing beach cleans, leading donation drive, visiting schools or cleaning parks. The Sports and Social Club also offers discounted trips, theater visits or restaurants. They publish an annual activity calendar to give employees plenty of time to plan.
