    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • This insight allowed me to add a real life perspective to my research. I had heard that this was a friendly firm with a strong commercial real estate practice and unique growth sector focus. The work that I have been given, the breakfast briefings and socials have confirmed this impression. At Nabarro, there is a huge emphasis on being yourself and this made the experience much more enjoyable for me, knowing that I did not have to think too hard about how to come across. There was always good banter here too. I think that is firm-wide. Tip: lock your screen when leaving your desk haha. Seriously speaking, if you want to 'enjoy' long hours, come here!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I have felt very valued. People regularly come to my desk to see how I am doing. I was invited by two leading partners to a meeting with a key client on my first day. Partners have regularly tried to get me involved. Associates, trainees, paralegals, secretaries and team assistants have all been extremely warm to me so I have felt comfortable going along to lunches and team drinks. There was always a trainee around too to tell me if I was going about something the wrong way, either work-wise or socially.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I have received a good amount of guidance. I've really valued the workplace skills more than anything i.e. how to keep colleagues on side, how to manage my workload and how to move things along quicker. These skills enhance my ability to be a better lawyer. I also received technical support when completing legal documents and processes for the first time. It may feel quite strange because everyone is assessing you but wants to help you at the same time. Make the most of the advice and help given.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I'll go back to my job being more aware of what it really means to be commercial and the things that commercial lawyers generally consider in their day to day work. It will be good preparation for my LPC as I have now already done things such as a share certificate, stock transfer form and a company health check involving checking Companies House and London Gazette.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well planned. I received a schedule of activities at least a month or two in advance. The breakfast briefings were (probably intentionally) the morning after nights out and I did not have to miss any opportunities due to clashes. The graduate recruitment team clearly thought this through thoroughly which is a great compliment to them considering one their most experienced members had just begun a career break.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Relaxed (depending on the time of the year) but ambitious, and focused on building a family to conquer the world (within a sector focus: healthcare, technology, real estate and infrastructure).

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I received breakfast briefings, networking training and IT and legal research training. I also visited the Rolls Building and the Royal Courts of Justice. The famous and pioneering Project Nabarro is also still top of the crop in terms the extent to which I felt like a lawyer and tested my ability to work under pressure. Associates also take time out of their day to support you in your project by role-playing and advising you. The networking training that I mentioned involved meeting interns from client firms so that I was able to build a relationship with potential future clients and colleagues.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This vacation scheme gave me a great understanding. I was given trainee level work and was trusted to complete it to the requisite standard. help was always available.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very much so. So many people told me to be myself and that is what Nabarro is about. They want to know that they can work with you at whatever time of day.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The breakfast briefings were the most insightful and inspiring in terms of deciding my future career path. Although I was sat in one department for my internship, the briefings gave me exposure to most of the work that the firm does. I have begun to pin-point areas of interest so that I can offer suggestions for departments that I would like to complete a seat in.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The pay is good.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes! Nabarro lawyers were at every social event and we had a partner dinner also.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • One of the best features of the vac scheme is the social side. The firm sees it as an opportunity to discover your character. If you like to have fun when it's time to have fun, you will be fine. Make sure that you are in early the next day though!

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, there were sessions on diversity, pro-bono and community work.
