About You
I loved the scheme. I feel like every aspect of life as a lawyer that could be covered was covered. You also learn an awful lot about the area of law you are sitting in. The after-hours events are always great fun and it's more likely than not that you will make lasting friendships with your colleagues and fellow vac schemers.
I think this depends on the department you sit in as to the extent they will make the effort to get to know you, but every department is consistently friendly. I felt like my work genuinely helped the lawyers and made their lives easier, which was appreciated by everyone.
I felt well supported. The graduate recruitment team were extremely approachable and welcoming from the outset. There is an informal mid-scheme meeting with a member of the recruitment team and a mini-appraisal from your supervisor. Everyone you talk to around the firm is willing to give you tips on how to do well on the scheme. Very little was given by way of feedback on work completed; the lawyers were very busy. But you could still sense that the contributions you made were valuable.
Immeasurably. The work was exactly the kind a trainee solicitor can expect from most firms. The work was of value to the team and was almost always used once checked. After the scheme I feel assured that I could cope with the challenges and demands of a city firm.
The Company
Brilliantly structured. Most days on the scheme were planned meticulously, which made it easy to organise your workload. There are lots of training events, networking events, presentations and socials to enjoy,
A lot of lawyers leave to go on holiday during the vac scheme, so it was a bit quieter than usual. However, everyone was friendly and happy to have a chat. I know I would be happy working here.
By the second day we were all trained on how to use Westlaw, LexisNexis and PLC. Networking events were hosted to meet people from internships at other companies. We were also given 'Project Nabarro' which gave us the chance to conduct our own formal meeting, present a client pitch and draft a letter to a client.
The three weeks feels just like a traineeship would.
The lawyers spent a lot of time with us at social events, which gave us a realistic insight into the firm's culture.
It left me sure a career as a city lawyer was the career for me.
Everything Else
Yes, several. You could also pick up the phone and someone in the firm to meet and have a chat about an area you're interested in.
Always great fun.
You find out about a lot of Nabarro's charity work and sports teams.
Absolutely.
