The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at IBM as a placement student. Working within Global Business Services has been an eye opening experience into the working world of a global corporation. I have been able to learn a great deal about working within a professional environment but also I have been able to vastly improve my communication, team-working and leadership skills.
As a placement student I felt I was valued by my immediate teammates and peers. With the range of teams we worked closely with, globally and nationally I felt as if they truly valued my and my teams input. Stakeholders we had less contact with put less trust and less faith in our ability to do our job however.
The support and guidance from IBM is unrivaled. I feel that IBM's support of their placement students and graduates is one of the best out there. With the support from your own task manager and from your Professional Development Manager you can have unlimited opportunity to grow as a person and a professional.
It fluctuated throughout the year, but usually I was pretty busy, every single day.
As a placement student I was given responsibility from day one. I was given access to a wide range of internal confidential data and trusted to use it carefully and discreetly.
There was a wide range of training and courses to be done online with IBm but also throughout the year the placement programme ran many skills sessions to improve on a wide variety of things such as communication, presentation and social media (LinkedIn, Professional Twitter account) skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was good between the interns, however, it is still a professional environment so fairly quiet in some areas.
It was incredibly well set up and there was so much support and guidance in place for the students.
IBM put a lot of time and resources in to improving us a employable graduates.

The Culture
There was a great social scene with the placement students. We would all usually go out for drinks on a Thursday and usually every weekend there was something going on.
It was central London, so very expensive.
Again it's central London so there is something for everyone.
There was football teams, boat parties, Christmas parties and a whole range of other events.
