    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my month working at Savills. The team I was working in couldn't have been more helpful, providing as much information and experience as they possibly could during my time. The work load was large but all relevant and certainly allowed me to gain a real insight into the everyday life of those within the team to which I was allocated. I never felt as though I was doing anything irrelevant simply to fill time. Overall, a great internship!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued. The work I was undertaking was key to the everyday running and administration of the team and therefore they were all very grateful for my help. The people went out of their way to take me on site visits, provide me with work and make me feel very welcome

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance was second to none. My supervisor gave me the majority of work, and checked up on how I was getting on regularly, without being overbearing. He was perfectly happy for me to ask questions and understood when I didn't understand something fully, and had to ask him to explain again. He was key in encouraging the team to involve me in the various tasks of the team

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy. I always had something to do however not that much that meant I couldn't enjoy myself at the same time. I was never bored and left with nothing to do. Although the days were long, I still managed to enjoy the evenings with a drink near to the office with the team I was working with or the other interns so overall, a great balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility. The task I was given to do was completely independent and therefore, I was given quite a lot of responsibility to get on with that and to get it right first time. On site visits, I was asked to help with measurements etc. that all provided me an extra bit of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Enormously. First of all, being able to work in a company such as Savills provides you with an insight into how it runs, how the teams work together and what the overall atmosphere is like, something that could only be guessed otherwise. Secondly, through the work I have undertaken, I have learnt an huge amount which will help me through my degree I am sure.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was a great balance of hard work and good fun. The people in my team undoubtedly worked very hard throughout the days but were able to have a laugh every now and again. Although a cliché perhaps, there was a sense of work hard, play hard within the office that was really enjoyable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised. Prior to arriving at Savills, we were provided with team allocations, location details, first day arrangements, a full schedule of events and more. This was fantastic as you arrived with a sense that you would be well looked after and you weren't nervous, wondering where to go on your first day. The departmental overviews, networking events, socials, tours and team activities that were organised were fantastic and certainly added something special to the overall experience of the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was only with the company for a month so I wouldn't say they invested in me, however it would have been very difficult for them to add anything more worthwhile than what was provided in that short space of time

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Extremely appealing. I can see myself very happy here, if I was able to join the organisation in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yeah a great social scene. We had a couple of occasions to have socials with those on the grad scheme, and many more chances, both organised for us and independently, to socialise with the other interns from Savills and other organisations.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was lucky enough to stay with friends, so cost of living was great! In terms of the cost of the area, it is expensive if you aren't used to London prices but that is just the way it is, and there are lots of ways to save money. In terms of socialising, couldn't be in a better place!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't go out, only for drinks in the evening, so I wouldn't really know but I can imagine it's pretty good. Even if not, you are a stones throw away from anywhere in London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few opportunities. I didn't have a team day myself, but I know some of the other interns had 'team days' where they were able to go on an activity day, which sounded great fun.
