The Role
I was given a fairly varied work load, some of it interesting some of it not. The team was friendly and there were a lot of events with interns both within the company and not.
As an intern its difficult to do valuable work but I felt though the work I could do was appreciated
My supervisor was very helpful and answered all questions I had. The directors in the department didn't have as much time to help because their fairly busy.
It varied- there were a lot of events put on and work was normally given to me if I asked. However sometimes I was given a lot of work that was time sensitive and was therefore very busy, and other times I wasn't given enough but the balance was pretty good over the month.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility. A lot of the team's work was report writing and after the first couple of days I was asked to write straight into the reports and then someone would just check them.
I study a property related degree so the internship was very useful for that and it gave you a good sense of commercial awareness and understanding of both your department and others in the company.
The Company
This varies massively between the different teams. Some teams keep their heads down more than others but generally everyone works hard and is friendly.
There were loads of events put on for the interns and most things were set up ready to go on arrival
They both a mid-placement review and a end of placement appraisal both of which helped you understand how to improve. The team were quite helpful in answering my questions and helping my understanding during the placement
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Although doing a placement certainly helps your chances (especially if your good) and there are opportunities to get fast-tracked to certain stages in the employment process, these are not common and they make it quite clear from the beginning that its an internship and not a future job.
The Culture
Yeah- there were loads of things put on for the interns and most nights you could go out for a drink if you wanted. The team also had a good social aspect to it and although it was not as strong as between the interns between the two there was more than enough to get involved in.
I lived at home during the placement but otherwise it would have been very expensive (it was in central London). Socialising was also pretty expensive.
Even though its very expensive in central London there is a lot of good nightlife
Not every day, about 2/3 times a week
