The Role
Nothing compares to being at the workplace to get a sense of the culture and type of colleagues and work you would have.
Vac schemes are mainly for the student's benefit, but the lawyers gave me real tasks and took time to explain the context and what I had to do so that you could do them well.
Really clear and friendly help, definitely felt I could ask questions.
Always had tasks to do but not really urgent ones.
People obviously are careful to review your work or give you things which are straightforward. The scheme was more useful for seeing and being told what they were doing - couldn't exactly get involved if just in a department for 4-5 days.
This insight helped me clarify why I wanted the job. Also part of the recruitment process.
The Company
The recession had slowed work down in some departments but they still seemed lively and happy places to work.
Graduate Recruitment gave us a structured timetable and were always available to help as well.
Sessions on the internship were about developing presentation/commercial awareness skills etc.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Got a job with them!
The Culture
Yes, went out after work unofficially and had official drinks at the start and a dinner at the end.
City of London has lots of options close or short journey away.
Lots of options.
Lots of teams and charity work if we were there longer than the short vac scheme.
