    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given great responsibility, help when needed and it was a friendly environment

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being a student they realise to not give you too much responsibility however I was unsure if that was a great thing as I would have liked to be treated like the other colleagues. I feel that my colleagues took my ideas and opinions into consideration which was nice.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very busy for the year as he runs the whole team however my supervisor was helpful and made time for me. He left halfway through the year and therefore I was slightly left to my own devices as I wasn't assigned a new supervisor

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied, some days I wasn't at my desk others I would have regular breaks. I was constantly kept busy, whether it was work or uni studies which made it difficult for me to keep focused.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A fair amount, based on the projects I was given. I lacked confidence and therefore didn't take on as much responsibility as I should have. This would've enabled me to show my abilities and allowed me to further progress within the business

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt lots of life lessons and skills being at a placement. I have progressed on skills such as; problem solving, communicative, leadership, meeting organisation etc. I have learnt about the values of processes and organisation within the business. I will be able to use these skills within the industry in the future, and put these into practise in my next job. I haven't done a lot relating to drug interaction and making drugs however I spent a fair amount of time in the labs, analysing powders within the devices which has helped me massively

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Querky, calm and quiet however not too intense. Everyone is focused but also having regular chats and friendly banter which is helpful and relaxing. The team are willing to help each other out regularly and do everything they can to ensure everything is completed within process description and to a timely manner.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Honestly, it wasn't set up so well as there were lots of changes within the year I was here. My manager did a great job to ensure I had all essentials and I was up to scratch with everything going on however when my supervisor had moved on from his job and the product owner for the project I was working on had moved on within the company it meant there was a lot of chaos and essentially I was left to my own devices to work things out for myself. It was a great experience however I would've liked to have had a supervisor in which I could rely on and gain help from. My manager did a great job in making sure I was okay and making sure GSK got the most out of me while I got the most out of GSK

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Personal training was up to me to gain however the Standard operating procedures prompt colleagues to gain the relevant experience to ensure we don't become overdue on those tasks. This made sure I was up to date with all procedures, training with the relevant equipment and my personal development was extended. I gained all experience and development myself and I was proud to have done so. I was then able to give training and tours to others for their development when they started.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Massively, I have already started looking within the business for jobs after I have graduated. I really love the company and the organisation of the company and having learnt so much about it I cannot wait to re-apply and hopefully be back in the future as a permanent employee.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes however I didn't get involved as much as I'd have liked to as I drove every day and I have other social commitments I have made for the weekends. Although Ware is just under an hours drive, it seems a long way away from home when coming back from a night out!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost was very high however I lived at home and commuted to work every day. Socialising is a standard london price which worked out to be the same as Ware!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • No nightlife in Ware, you would have to take the train into Harlow/taxi to hatfield for that

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, lots of sporting, social events however I wasn't able to get involved with many due to my regular activities and commitments.

    3/5
