The Role
I enjoyed my work placement very much! The work that I was doing was really interesting and I met a lot of people and I have attended speaker series events, which I really enjoyed as I heard the experiences of multiple CROs and I had the opportunity to gain their insight regarding Risk, Barclays and Financial Sector.
My colleagues always treated me with utter respect and they were always willing to give me tasks, responsibility and explain what I needed to do.
Everyone on my team has been very helpful whenever I had any questions or concerns which I really appreciate and most importantly, in past weeks I have learnt a lot about daily tasks and the main focus of my team; as well as how Barclays operates as a whole.
I usually worked around 9 hours a day and was relatively busy during the period, however I joined the team in the most peaceful period in the year so in case I stay here full time I would expect to be more busy.
As it was a quiet period I was given less responsibility than I would be given at another time of the year but I still received responsibility as I had projects on which I was the only one working.
I am still on the internship scheme at the moment but I learnt a lot about project management and presentation skills which I expect to be useful in the future.
The Company
Very pleasant , friendly and professional.
Internship was well organized as we had training beforehand and speaker series and networking events during the internship. The only thing that I would improve is getting more information beforehand as on the start date I only knew where to be and what time and did not know what else to expect.
Barclays invested in its interns as we had training before the start and various online course of which some were mandatory and some were optional.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
All the interns get automatically considered for a graduate role which is very good, and so it is up to interns to make a good
The Culture
Yes, I got along very well with interns in my scheme and we were socializing outside of work as well and I have made couple of good friends on Graduate and AVP scheme.
Since I am based in London generally the cost of everything was high although when Barclays itself organized event, they were completely free. Low grade is for high cost of living and socializing outside of Barclays.
Yes, there are many sport teams and citizenship challenges within Barclays. Also there are ski trips every year organized by the Bank
