    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at General Motors prior to the amalgamation of Vauxhall and General Motors (The RateMyPlacement Team) Fantastic job with real responsibilities. Treated like a genuine engineer - have not made coffee once!!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Great team, fit in well. Very welcoming and approachable.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Slow start, the initial training is given by the guy/girl you will replace

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Just the right balance really, not too busy in the office, but really a job based at suppliers rather than at a desk

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • had real responsibilities, and worked on huge make/break projects

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This differs from a normal engineering placement, as I was not stuck with one process/product all year. As a supplier quality engineer I visit suppliers making a huge variety of parts, therefore I have gained a large amount of knowledge on a huge range of processes

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • good team, good crack. not just engineers, but buyers, and logistics guys in close proximity - always up for a laugh

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • again, this was organised mostly by the undergrads from the year before - luckily mine was seamless, but it depends who you get!!

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Gm has its own academy and university, I had a vast amount of training in negotiation, communication, computer skills, presentation skills, at the very highest standard.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • once you start you will be hooked - if i was offered a job id snap it up

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • fantastic - nearly 70 students made the handover feel like freshers again, and something was happening week in - week out

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • list of standard houses used every year by placement students. you pay for what you get, nothing ridiculously expensive, but no outstanding bargains either

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • not bad in luton - but watford, london, milton keynes, and st albans often have to be visited as luton gets boring after a while

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • you take out what you put in. if things were organised there was plenty to do!!

    3/5
