The Role
I enjoyed my internship with Grant Thornton very much. I learnt a lot, I was given meaningful, challenging work to do and I enjoyed every day of my six weeks.
From day one, my colleagues gave me important client work to do and I felt as though everyone I worked with trusted me to perform my work to a high standard. I was treated like a member of the team from the very start, something I really appreciated.
Everyone I worked with was more than willing to provide me with help and advice. Having had no prior experience in audit, I had many, many questions - but, no matter who I asked, I was given help and advice, and I never felt uncomfortable asking for help.
Nearly every day that I was on-site with a client, I had work to do all the time. Whenever I finished one task, I could just ask for more work to do and I would be given some very quickly. There were a couple days in the office though when I didn't have any client work to do, so I wasn't too busy on those days.
As I said previously, from day one, I was given meaningful client work to do. All audit work is reviewed, no matter who performs it, so my in-charges didn't worry about giving me work to do. Of course, it was only work that was of a level that I could do, but I was still the only person to do that work, so it was a lot of responsibility.
I don't do an accountancy degree, so I wouldn't use much of the technical skills at uni, but I did learn a lot about presentations, which will come in useful. If I am lucky enough to be offered the graduate job, I am sure that the skills I learnt and developed will assist me in that!
The Company
Relaxed and friendly. It was obviously very professional, and people kept quiet and worked when they needed to, but there was still a lot of chat and joking around. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the office.
Very. Myself and my fellow interns were all given different audit jobs to work on prior to our starting, so we knew exactly what we would be doing every single day of the six weeks from day one.
All interns are sent to Bradenham Manor, Grant Thornton's own training location, to learn presentation skills, which was very useful. Many of those I worked with also took time out of their own work to explain things to me and help me learn about the technical side of accountancy.

We were told that over 90% of interns from last year received graduate job offers, so the odds are in my favour!
The Culture
There were a number of days when we all went out for lunch together and evenings when we went out for drinks.
I'm a student, so it was no different to the academic year at uni.
I go to uni in the same city that I did my internship, and there are a large number of bars, pubs and clubs.
There were a number of different activities to get involved with - I personally played football with people from the office once a week.
