    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS) greatly, my colleagues were friendly and welcoming and I found my role particularly enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely felt valued by my colleagues, all the work I completed for them was appreciated both by them and my manager. I was also asked to help on tasks outside of my role by some of my colleagues which was good experience as well.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great guidance and support from my manager and learned a great deal from them over the course of my placement. I was given the right balance of support and responsibility by my manager and that allowed me to get the most out of my placement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy I was changed day to day, some days I would have a large amount of tasks and work to do, others were quieter, but overall I would say it was a nice balance.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the right amount of responsibility I believe, towards the end of placement especially I would often have the responsibility of the entire departmental area. This was extremely useful for my professional development.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the professional skills I learned will be of most use to me as I worked in a business development area. The skills I learned will definitely help me in my final year and beyond university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was good, I had no problem going and speaking to anyone in the office and the people where very friendly. Everyone was also very hardworking so the office could be very quiet at times, this also allowed you to get your work done which was nice.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement has been in place for many years in my role so it was an easy transition for me to begin with as everyone already knew what I did and what my responsibilities were. I was performing a job role so any working in other departments was done of my own volition (although this was encouraged).

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At VWFS they have a number of compulsory training and development courses which I did in the first 6 months of my placement. You could also sign up for optional training courses for the skill area of your choice, I did a few of these towards the end of placement. The quality of these courses were always very good and I found that I learnt quite a bit at every one of them.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My role was a placement students role so I couldn't go back into that, but I have the full support of my manager for when I finish my degree to apply for any role within the organisation, I know a few of the other placement students have been told they would be welcomed back as well.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I got on very well with my fellow placement students and we often were together outside of work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living varied depending on the area you wanted to live, as Milton Keynes is a commuter town this meant the prices were slightly higher than average (still nothing on London though). I wouldn't say that socializing was particularly cheap or expensive.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Milton Keynes is okay, there are a few clubs and plenty of bars, people usually go to the hub (centre MK) and then go either to the Xscape or to Pink Punters (club).

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in such as charity events and sports clubs.

    4/5
