The Role
I enjoyed very much this experience, I found it extremely valuable, one from which I had the chance to learn a lot about business market and corporate culture and processes.
The people within Deloitte are great, everybody was really approachable, nice and really helpful in any situation that arose.
This internship was designed to give the interns not only an insight into how it is actually to perform on the job, but what the other departments' role is, how the processes are linked, what is the career path and so on, which was fantastic in order to understand how can you develop over time and what is the role you're most suitable for.
Overall, the working balance was good, however, there were some days when I was quite free and there was not much I could help the other colleagues with.
For an intern I think that we had quite a bit of responsibility since we were working on pieces of projects very important for Deloitte's clients, however, the complexity of the work we were involved in was quite basic.
I found this experience really constructive, both professionally and personally, I think I managed to improve not only my commercial awareness, but also my soft skills, aspects that will help me in any situation, especially towards my studies and beyond.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was really nice, no matter if there was a rather busier period or not, people really enjoyed being here, they were sometimes joking, having fun and also events like Friday Drinks or periodic lunches together were helping a lot in consolidating the team and creating a familiar environment where the atmosphere was great.
The work placement had a clear defined structure, including a proper induction where we managed to find more about Deloitte and the processes developing in there and moreover, we had the chance to meet the interns from the other offices as well and to share opinions, experiences and so on. Then, over the internship, I found really helpful the buddy scheme, we had weekly meetings with our champions and attended various sessions where people from different departments shared opinions, experiences about how their roles developed over time, what the enjoy about their work and so on. One thing that can be improved in my opinion is to make sure that the list of objectives is fulfilled by each and every intern and that they have the chance to experience very different tasks over the whole period.
I feel that the company invested really much in each of the interns, as stated before we were given a lot of support over the whole period, from a 2-day firm induction session, an IT training and a department induction, to various online courses that had to be completed and weekly meetings with managers from various divisions as well as a partner lunch.

The future employment prospects within the organisation are great in my opinion, I think that a career within this firm represents one of the dream jobs for many students in the financial sector and for somebody who had the chance of an internship, they have a significant advantage over the people from outside.
The Culture
In my opinion this is one of the great things since we managed to know most of the people in our office even from the induction event and after that we kept in touch and managed to have lunch together almost every day and even to go out sometimes over the 6 weeks period.
I find the cost of living and socialising in the area I worked in not very different from how it is in any place within UK, not very expensive, but also not really cheap. And taking into account that the surrounding area was maybe the best within the city I interned in, this was quite a great aspect.
I found it really nice, quite similar to the one at my university.
In my opinion, yes, being in the second largest city in UK gives you a wide ranges of opportunities to choose from when it comes to activities outside my work.
