    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyable work environment, involved with interesting projects

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was allowed to work on difficult processes which was good. Some menial tasks (i.e. printing / PDF drawings) but that is only to be expected. Given plenty of opportunity to voice my opinion on engineering matters.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given support when the senior engineers where available. However, as they were often very busy, it was sometimes difficult to get in contact with them.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Differed from day to day. Usually busy, but occasionally quieter. When it was quiet I was always given tutorials / examples to teach me to use different software.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given responsibility of design of different structural members and creating reports. Although this work was checked, it was important it was done correctly due to the tight time scale we were working to.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe they will be very useful. I have learned to use different pieces of software, and have gained an appreciation of how engineering and architecture can work together to produce a beautiful structure.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I enjoyed the atmosphere. Everyone was very focused on the project at hand, but there were also several after work activities which I enjoyed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Could have been better. The interviewing process was well organised, but during my placement things could have been better organised.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I was only on placement for 2 months, there was a limited time for the company to invest in me. However, everyone was willing to help, and lunchtime seminars were informative.

    3/5

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company is currently expanding, which will hopefully continue, allowing for the opportunity of future employment. I would be very interested in future employment with the organisation, mainly due to the working environment and the variety of projects on offer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was. As there was approx. 12 placement students working at the same time as myself, we got on well. The rest of the staff also provided a good working environment. With activities such as touch rugby after work being enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of accommodation not a problem for me as I had family nearby, although it was expensive for others. Food and drink expensive, which is only to be expected in the middle of London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good, plenty of people from the office would head to the pub after work, allowing me to get to know more people in the office.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots. There was lots of sports available (Rugby, football, softball, basketball)
