The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship so far -- I am well-supported by my manager, by a very proactive graduate, Kirsty, here in the office, and by living with other Centrica interns. The work is valuable to the business and challenging, which is hugely motivating. I have definitely learned a lot.
To my manager and a few friendly faces around the office, I felt very valued and respected. However, because I was not sitting with a concrete team at a bank of desks together, it has been challenging getting to know other people more widely.
Fantastic support, couldn't have asked for better.
Some days could be slightly hectic, but I was never bored, and overall I was master of my own time and could balance my days in an efficient manner.
I have really appreciated being given so much responsibility -- it is a huge motivator and a great way to learn as much as possible. I feel like I have been given the opportunity to make my mark.
This has been a real grounding experience in a big business, and what I have learned will remain relevant for many years to come, no matter what career I choose to pursue.
The Company
The Stockport office has a pleasant atmosphere. There are a lot of young contact staff, everyone is very professional but also personable and energetic.
I have been in very good hands! Apart from a little uncertainty before I arrived about who would manage me, there have been no technical hitches whatsoever and the internship has felt very structured. This level of organisation has really contributed to how far the graduate team has been able to push me, which has allowed me to get as much as possible from my time here.
Both financially and in terms of how much time people have dedicated, I have been very impressed with the focus on my own development.

There is a chance that I could be offered a place on Centrica's graduate scheme.
The Culture
Definitely, we have had a great time exploring Manchester together. The graduates have also been wonderful about inviting us to attend drinks and dinners with them. There haven't been any offers from other colleagues to socialise, but our age gap is quite large!
With a student bus pass, travel in Manchester has been very affordable. There are great shops and variety in the city. Something for every budget.
Fabulous! There is a lot of explore in Manchester, all different kinds of cuisine, bars and clubs. This summer the international festival has been on, so there are also lots of more cultured opportunities.
There probably were... but I haven't had too much time to join any clubs. Just shopping, the cinema, nights out, reading, walking in the parks.
