The Role
I really enjoyed working at GT, I am glad I chose to do my placement year with them.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. In the Public Sector audit department you will spend most of your time working in teams of different sizes therefore there is a chance for you to get to know your colleagues better. There is also a platform in GT where your colleagues can recognise you for exhibiting the CLEARR values of the firm. This gets you points to spend on vouchers and other gifts.
I was fully supported by my Line manager and the firm when I was seeking development opportunities and also when I had personal issues that was affecting my work.
This varies. Public Sector Audit department at GT has its busy season (at present April- September) and its quieter periods. In the busy season, you will be focused on your clients and you will have a variety of tasks to carry out for the audit. In the quieter seasons you have a lot of development opportunities such as secondments in other departments within the firm like commercial audit. However if that doesn't appeal to you, you will booked to carry out interim work for your clients. There is also a platform for you to request work if needed.
When you are on an audit, every team member has a part to play. You will be given a section of the audit to work on. The work you do plays a big part in the success of the audit therefore there is a sense of responsibility not to let the team down and get your work done to the best of your ability. Before each job in the Public sector audit department, the person in charge is likely to ask you what areas you would like to work on for the audit. Therefore there is an opportunity for you to stretch yourself to do challenging sections- This is highly encouraged. However you are fully supported regardless of the sections you chose.
I received a number of training materials whilst on my placement at GT and I have no doubt that they will be useful for me in my final year of studies.
The Company
The atmosphere at the office is generally good. Due to the nature of the job, I spent most of your time on client's site working in teams. My department had regular end of the month drinks and team days to help us stay connected.
The placement program was well organised.
I found that there was a lot of training offered by the firm in relation to my job as well as training to develop IT software skills. You also get on the job coaching and there are several opportunities to do some online training courses.

The Culture
End of month drinks and team days are usually the avenues in which people would socialise.
My placement was in London however, I chose to stay in my family home outside London. For those who plan to get an accommodation in London, the prices will vary depending on what Zone you choose to live in. The more central you are, the more expensive it is likely to be.
London is a lively city! There is always something going on.
Yes, there are a few people who usually organised activities outside work such as football and trips abroad. GT have a social platform which helps you find these opportunities or create them if you are interested.
