About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. Although it was very full on for the three weeks, I feel like I was able to get the most out of the experience. It gave me excellent insight into the firm as well as the work they do and the clients they work with.
Everyone I worked with made me feel like a valuable member of the team. For every piece of work I was given I was given full background on the case and explained how my own contribution would fit into the bigger picture. I was also always thanked for the work I did, no matter how small it was and this always made me feel like I was actually making a contribution.
Both my trainee buddy and my supervisor took active roles in supporting me throughout the three weeks. They were always incredibly helpful with any questions I had and regularly checked in with me to make sure I was doing ok.
As well as helping me realise the career path I want to take, the placement gave me great experience in actual legal work which not only adds context to work I will do towards my degree but also was excellent practice for when I undertake my traineeship.
The Company
Very well structured. I was provided with a timetable on the first day and always knew where I was meant to be and when. In addition to doing work with my practice group, we were able to attend practice group presentations every other day that provided insight into the other areas of law that the firm worked within which was great to get an overview of the firm as a whole.
The atmosphere was supportive, welcoming and fun. I really didn't think it would be possible for me to enjoy my placement as much as I did but it was absolutely fantastic.
Each piece of work I was given really helped me develop my skills and those around me ensured that I was learning with everything I was doing.
In addition to experiencing what a traineeship with Pinsent Masons would be like, the placement also gave me insight into the day to day role of different levels within the firm which was great.
The placement not only let me experience the collaborative working nature of the firm but through social events that were organised throughout the placement we had the opportunity to see how the firm interacted socially.
The placement helped me decide that a future in commercial law, and more specifically with Pinsent Masons, was right for me.
Everything Else
In addition to fair pay, my supervisor always ensured that I was reimbursed for any expenses I incurred.
Office drinks were organised for the second week of the placement which was a great opportunity for networking outside the team I was placed with.
They were both enjoyable and a valuable experience. Through the office drinks I was able to engage in some work for a partner in a different practice area than the one I was placed in which was a really worthwhile experience.
We were given a presentation on CSR though unfortunately there were no opportunities to get involved ourselves during the three weeks.
I would recommend this placement to anyone interested in a future in commercial law, it was a brilliant experience.
