The Role
I have really enjoyed the experience here at Barclays, however feel it could have been enhanced with better organisation and support from HR at certain points.
When I was able to assist on tasks, I felt valued but there was often a limit to how involved I was able to get with the day to day activities of my team.
My line managers were fantastic and really supportive. If I needed any guidance or help, they were always there to assist me with anything and really endeavoured to do anything they could for me.
I could have been given more tasks from my team although there was never a time where I had absolutely nothing to do.
My responsibility was limited due to the fact that much of the work that was at my level was not able to be delegated for the duration of my internship. However, I was able to help out on projects and actively partake in centrally organised activities because of this.
I have developed good interpersonal skills from working here and getting involved with a number of clients. I have also learnt negotiation and team work skills which will be very useful in my future life. Overall, a large number of skills have been developed which I will be able to take forward.
The Company
The atmosphere was a good balance of friendly colleagues but could be quieter if work needed to be done. Very jovial line manager helped!
Due to being the first year of the PCB&Barclaycard internship, there were a number of issues with the organisation of the internship which left me at times feeling lost and unsure.
There were a few events which were organised and a day of introductory training, but nothig ongoing.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I would be interested in taking the graduate position if I was offered it, it looks to be a good scheme.
The Culture
Yes - the other interns were all up for a laugh
Somewhat expensive as it is Canary Wharf, but bearable
Good for bars and drinks in the evening, nice selection of restaurants too
The things to get involved with for interns were not widely advertised
