    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The greatest experience in my life. You have the potential to earn thousands of dollars, while running your own business in america... it was amazing and i would recommend it to anyone who wants a good challenge and wants to succeed in everything they do.

  • Everyone at the southwestern company always makes you feel valued. There is constant support whenever you need it and you make friends for life with the people you work with at southwestern

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We have constant training and support from managers throughout the company, with each person under a specific manager but also able to go higher up if more help is needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the summer this is an intense job. We work 6 days a week usually about 80Hrs with only sundays off. While this is necessary to do well in this job it is hard work and not for everyone.

  • I was basically running my own business and while i had the support of those around me i was responsible for my success in the summer

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I can't even begin to describe how many skills I developed from this internship from teamwork to leadership, you have the opportunity to improve any aspect in your life that you want. I feel that it improved my confidence greatly and has helped me to be able to communicate better in many aspects of my life especially at university.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We work had and play hard and that is the same in the office. The staff who work in the office are alot of fun but still get the job done. It is always a pleasure to go see anyone in the office

  • In terms of recruitment SW are really good at preparing and training interns before sending them out to work in the summer.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has invested a lot of time and money into helping me to reach my full potential. Before the summer i was given plenty of team and one on one training and since returning i have also had a lot of addition training and given the opportunity to attend training workshops that have given me invaluable experience.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After the summer many first years are asked to return as a student manager to recruit their own team for a second summer and there is potential to do multiple summers with the company. there is also a graduate scheme.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • the area was pretty cheap but we had to cover all our own expenses which could seem expensive at times. But because you are working so much you save a lot of money on not going out etc.

  • During the summer we do not go out, but at the end when we return to Nashville you can go out for the night and it is amazing.
