The Role
Really enjoyed the placement, given lots to do including extra activities aside from just getting on with day to day tasks.
All members of the team were very friendly giving me important tasks to do and if I delivered something successful this was always recognised.
Given any support I needed, always there to answer questions or give advice whenever I need.
Slow towards the beggining but picked up, always plenty to do and if I was bored I was always able to ask for something else to do.
Involved with lots of important projects/initiatives but the responsibility wasn't all on me, it was always a team effort.
Improved communication skills, especially in writing, will be useful for project work in the final year of my degree. Beyond by degree many of the skills developed will be useful in a future job either at Barclays or elsewhere.
The Company
In my particular office it was a bit quiet at times but people were always friendly, other floors in the building had a very different atmosphere though, it depends on the department you are working in.
Generally very good, quite a few organised networking events and opportunities to meet senior members of staff. The internship was also well-structured in terms of reviewing performance and giving feedback. I had IT issues and needed a replacement computer which took 5 weeks to get but that wasn't the fault of Graduate Recruitment.
Quite a lot of investment in us, makes sense considering how many interns they keep on for the grad scheme.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Find out on the last day of the internship whether we will be offered a place on the graduate scheme; they do keep a lot of the interns on, makes sense considering how much they invest in us over the 9 weeks.
The Culture
Good amongst fellow interns, amongst colleagues it depends on the team you are in.
Living in London, so expensive.
Plenty of bars in Canary Wharf, good nightlife elsewhere in London.
