    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at EY was fantastic. The people in my team made coming to work each day exciting and I really enjoyed learning new things about my role each day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt very valued each day. There was a lot of responsibility from day one which showed that my colleagues were willing to trust me with client work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support at EY was fantastic. Before you join you're assigned to a buddy and a mentor who look after you during your internship. They're brilliant in that they show you everything that really help you get by day to day. You can always ask them questions and not feel silly about it which is really positive. In terms of the management team, we were also assigned to a counsellor who we would have regular interaction with to see how our goals were going. They were also extremely supportive and made me feel very integrated at the company from an early stage.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Each day was different. Some days I had a lot to do, others less so. On the less busy days it was a great opportunity to ask around the office to other members of the team to see if you could help them with any work, or sit in on any meetings. I was quite lucky though in terms of work load and being kept busy because some of the level 1s had gone to college for their summer exams, so I was given plenty of work to help the management team with.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility in terms of getting stuck into client work and producing work that was going to be sent out. Although the pieces of work are checked over and over by multiple levels of management, there is still the responsibility to do the work to a high standard from the beginning and understanding the information that they provide.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed on my internship are extremely valuable for pursuing a career in accounting and in tax specifically. Although not closely linked to my degree, I feel that just working in the office and interacting with all my colleagues, whether they're level 1 or partner, has given me a great insight and understanding of what life is like outside of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very positive and inclusive. No one made the interns feel undervalued and we were all fully integrated into the firm. People are generally very chatty and are willing to talk to you to find out more about what you're like as a person and how you're finding working ay EY.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well organised. From way before the internship started we received plenty of updates from the recruitment team and our mentors about what was going to happen on the internship. During the internship there were updates as well and a meeting with one of the recruitment team to see how things were going.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • EY invested a lot of time into our personal development. In the first few days, we all had an induction in Manchester. The organisers of the internship spent a few days outlining what our roles on the internship would be like and giving us a real insight into the skills we should try to develop during our time at the firm. We also set goals with our counsellors which allowed us to try and get involved in projects at the firm that we could develop our skills and gain a deeper understanding.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Thought working at EY was fantastic and I would definitely work here in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Within the Leeds office there were another 10 interns within the different departments. We were able to easily organise evening meals, drinks and just generally hanging out and everyone was really fun to spend time with outside work. As well as this, our managers and mentors would regularly take us out for drinks on Fridays or go for lunch.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It wasn't that bad. You're paid really well so even after spending money on accommodation you still have plenty left over. Some people stayed at home, but for me I found a place to rent out. Cost of living for food and amenities isn't that bad in Leeds and you can enjoy yourself with the money you earn.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leeds seemed to be quite lively so if you're looking to go out on Friday or Saturday there's definitely plenty to do.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeh quite a lot of opportunities. There are EY sports teams to get involved with and also community projects for charity.
