The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I was given a lot of responsibility throughout and I was able to ask questions freely.
My colleagues were very welcoming and my input was always appreciated. I had a formal and informal relationship with my colleagues so I was able to feel valued throughout.
Support was given when asked. I preferred it this way because I wanted to be left to focus on work independently.
The workload did vary from working 8am-8pm on some days to having a more relaxed 8:3am-6:30pm on other days.
I was in charge of project that the whole bank had to complete for my business unit. I was probably given more responsibility than most other interns.
I mainly learnt soft skills during my project, but I used my initiative to learn some more technical skills. So overall, these skills were useful.
The Company
There was a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere in the office. Every was busy and had their day-to-day tasks, however there was always time for informal chats.
The internship was well organised, but aside from the speaker series there was not much else to organise.
There was moderate to a high amount of training. It would have been better to gain some more technical training.
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing, Barclays is one of the leading bulge bracket banks.
The Culture
This side let the programme down, compared to other banks. There was not much of social scene during the internship; it was left up to you to organise this.
London prices, but nothing too extortionate.
There is such a wide variety of night life such that there is something for everyone.
For interns, this was limited. However, I hear for graduates and full time employees there are opportunities.
