The Role
Loved every minute! The most challenging experience I've ever had, and learned skills I'd never have learned so fast elsewhere. Amazing confidence boost and great collegues too - have met people from all over europe and the US through the programme. Would thoroughly recommend it but only to the right kind of students who are hard working and up for a challenge!
Lived with 2 guys in my first summer along with a host family, one a friend since primary school and the other a friend from my course. That was a big part of my summer, but all the teams I've been part of in 4 summers have pulled together and made it a great experience.
Coaching calls every single night and access at any time to sales managers/sales support if you have any questions while talking to customers. Amazing week of training at the beginning of the summer too.
VERY busy! So you have to be the kind of person who really gets a kick out of meeting new people because the job is none stop in that sense.
You really do get to run your own business and that is both a huge challenge and also incredibly rewarding. Also looks great on the CV!
Definitely skills for life. Answers to every question you could get asked at any job interview! In terms of building confidence, learning how to connect with people and keep a great attitude, these are skills you can't learn in a book. You have to get it from the real world and Southwestern gives you a huge shot of real life in just 3 months.
The Company
All students are encouraged to make the job as fun as possible and I've loved ever week on the job!
Southwestern have had 155 years of experience so no problems there.
We got a whole week of training at the beginning of the summer entirely for free, plus my manager had met with me for at least 30 mins every week on campus as well as run team meetings for us. So we were definitely well trained!

To move up in Southwestern you just need to keep working hard and setting a good example to the students you bring with you. There are also something like 15 or 20 sister companies that are always looking for graduates of the Southwestern internship to boost their companies.
The Culture
A lot of my friends think it's weird that I hang out with my collegues outside of work! But at Southwestern you really do become friends with people you work with and there's a great work hard/play hard atmosphere between all the students.
US has always been cheaper than the UK for sure, plus the host families that the company sets up are a lot cheaper than hotels or something would be.
Wasn't really part of the internship - we saved the partying until the end back at the company's headquaters in Nashville. Nashville itself is amazing though!
As a student manager (and even first year) students are encouraged to really get involved in campus activities and there's always been a lot of fun socials organised eg charity events, football tournaments etc.
