The Role
Varied workload and responsibility, good learning opportunities, well structured and organised placement, friendly colleagues
Friendly colleagues, thanked for efforts, given opportunity to participate in interesting work and help colleagues with interesting projects
I had a supervisor (Associate level) and a trainee buddy to help with any queries and guide in the right direction when working on tasks
Kept myself busy by looking for work, speaking with colleagues
I was involved in work (such as the preparation of documents for the sale of a business) which trainee's would be working on I was given responsibility which suited my level and was still challenging and interesting
I gained very important skills from placement - organisation, practical legal skills, time management. These will be very useful in future career and placement was a great insight into the tasks and responsibilities of a trainee solicitor.
The Company
Professional and friendly
Very well organised placement - lots of tasks to do. During any quiet times had a handbook of legal problem questions to work through.
The firm invested a lot of time in teaching summer vacation students about the work of trainee solicitors and providing an insight into this. The practice negotiation was supervised by trainee's who gave feedback on individual skills and suggested areas for improvement. The practice client meeting was with partners who took their time to listen to the presentations and provide feedback on presentation skills and areas for development. They also asked questions in order to develop communication skills and provide an insight into the relationship between solicitor and client.
