The Role
I have enjoyed my internship, I have been given responsibility for my own project as well as working on ad hoc tasks and picking up other smaller projects as I have gone along. The team has been very welcoming, and the management is very approachable
My team has been very welcoming, and we have socialised after work on several occasions
I sit two desks down from my manager, so he is always available should I have any questions. I also regulary present my work to him, and receive constructive feedback
On a regular day I attend a few meetings (mainly conference calls), work on my project and respond to emails and ad hoc tasks. There is always work to do, how busy you are depends on your ability to manage your own time
I have taken full ownership of two of our processes, and feel that the team trusts me to carry out this work.
Working in a team, and looking at process improvements are very much related to my degree (Business/Management), and I think this experience will prove useful when I return to studies. I have also become more familiar with financial products, which would help me should I to do any finance related modules. Also improved on presentation skills, as I regulary present my work to my manager and the avp
The Company
My team is very lively and get on well. There is a good atmosphere in my office
The internship started with two days full training, which was a good introduction to the business, sector and the other interns. We also have regular learning sessions with senior directors and MDs
Apart from the initial two days of training, the team has invested time in training me and showing me how our systems work. Other than that, there has not been the opportunity to do extra training courses relevant to your role. As an intern, I do not believe they budget for us to do extra training (Barclays run other training sessions, but these come at a cost to the office you are working under)
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Working from home
Not yet finished my internship, but have had a mid term review which was positive. Would love to get an offer for the grad scheme, but will not find out until our final day
The Culture
We have arranged to go for drinks after work quite a few times, and I regular have lunch with the other interns. Everyone has been very friendly, and I know most of the interns within Ops.
Canary Wharf and London - of course it won't be cheap. But you do get a living allowance that takes this into consideration
Canary Wharf has a few nice bars to go for an after work drink, and there are plenty of places to go out in London
There are quite a few sports and interest societies one can get involved in, though I have not so I cannot really comment on them
