    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Although challenging I've found my time at Barclays interesting and motivating. The best thing has definetely been to meet and get to know all the people working at Barclays: fellow interns, my team and senior members of the investment bank. Everyone has been very open and approachable, something which has added a lot of value to my experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It was made clear to me in the beginning that all tasks I had been set would be of use to both my team and my manager after I left. This made me feel valued as a team member but also in terms of the work I did.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has been fantastic. Very approachable, keen to help and constantly ensuring I've been having a good time. Although I had to find my own way to solve problems and getting in touch with the right people he has always been there to guide me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It differed but I have never been bored in the sense that I've lacked things to do. By having my tasks set when I came in I knew what I should be working on and the times I had time left I talked to other people around me and offered to help, something which was appreciated.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was getting quite a lot of responsibility in terms of managing the task I had been set. This included setting up meetings, processing information and meeting deadlines. However, I was given less responsibility here compared to previous jobs I've had.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think my internship at Barclays has been a great complement to my studies, and at the same time having studied economics have made my internship easier. What has been great about my role is the fact that I've been given an insight into how what I study works in practice.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was much mroe relaxed than I thought it would be and although focus was on the job there was time to talk to each other about other things as well.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The operations senior speaker sessions were very beneficial, as well as the access to WiN from the beginning. It would have been good to get the dates of the internship a bit earlier.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think they are quite good, but it's obviously up to each and everyone to make the most of the situation. You have to put yourself out there and constantly challenge yourself but if you do people will notice.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, especially rent and communting. But the wage covered it.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Most acitivities are focusing on sports so since I don't do any sports the opportunities were quite limited for me.
