The Role
I cannot express enough what an amazing opportunity this placement is! The fact they pay you, pay for accomodation, offer training, expenses, give you a laptop and phone etc is so rare. It has also really pushed me out of my comfort zone and been a real learning experience. Personally I am unsure if I applied for the right stream, being in customer ops, I think I would have enjoyed a creative role in marketing more. Nonetheless helping me come to this realisation is also a positive that I shall take away from it.
I was part of a tight knit team of about 10, who sat together had lunch together and were all good friends. They were all very welcoming, so helpful and including.
My line manager was very approachable and relaxed. If I needed any help she would literally drop what she was doing. It was sometimes more a case of me coming to her than her to me- but it gave me a lot of independence.
It varied. I wasn't given any exact deadlines so I could work at my own pace and either make myself busy or not.
My project involved approaching a lot of senior management and doing things on my own so a fair bit but the project itself wasn't going to make a great difference to the company, so less so in that sense.
The whole 10 weeks definitely has built on my confidence overall, and the excel skills will definitely help with my degree. Other skills i have gained will contribute more to an office based job in the future.
The Company
There was a very friendly chatty relaxed atmosphere in my team. The office itself was a call centre so always noisy and gossiping. There were quite a few engagement activities too.
Fairly well organised. My placement was based beyond Windsor and staines, where the majority of placements are, in Manchester so sometimes felt a bit out of the loop and getting down to head office for training events was annoying. But the training days themselves and support in place was very well organised.
They invested loads!! If I wanted extra training or anything they would provide it
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
The aim is to get onto the grad scheme after, and if I decide this is for me and get onto this, then employment prospects are pretty good.
The Culture
Yes, everyone was very friendly. I lived with 5 other interns in Manchester, and we did things on the weekends and went out etc
Manchester is a great place to live, loads to do and very cheap if you go to the right places.
Really good! Lot's of variety
Got invited to a work hen party and there was also the charity project as part of the placement, which was great to get involved in the local community.
