    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really interesting, everyone is willing to sit down with you and explain their role/area, insight sessions in the first few weeks are really helpful in learning about the whole company

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work I've been given isn't just administrative tasks but substantial work that has allowed me to get involved in some big projects and really feel like I've made a contribution. Everyone is happy to listen to any ideas and suggestions and appreciates all work done

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Had weekly catch ups with my manager where we talked about all the work I had been doing (both in and out of their own team) as well as how I felt I was fitting in to the company and also what I thought of internship events. Manager was more than happy to set up meetings with other employees if I expressed an area in different departments and also to help me with any work I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally I felt that I could have been given more work as I often completed my tasks much faster than my manager/supervisor anticipated. But I definitely wasn't bored at any point and felt comfortable asking for more work if I ran out.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given entire projects to do on my own from quite early on which was a really exciting responsibility, I was also encouraged to set up my own meetings with people across my department. Support is there but you're definitely encouraged to be proactive and independent which is good as that is what work is actually like!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The feedback I received on some of my work and projects was actually similar to feedback I have previously received on essays at university, but having it explained in an entirely different context really helped me to address the issues from a new perspective. The communications and networking skills are obviously invaluable in whatever degree/job you do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Relaxed, fun, chatty, friendly, inclusive.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is really well organised and allows you to learn a lot about your own area as well as getting a good understanding of the overall business and industry.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had several insight sessions in the first two weeks which covered each different business area, the people who presented them were more than happy to answer any questions afterwards as well. Within my department my manager set up meetings with each team manager so that I could understand what each team did which was really helpful and interesting - I really got to see how the work I was doing impacted not only my team but also the whole department and even the company!

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work for M&G in the future, it's a really welcoming company where I could see myself working in the long term.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were several intern social events as well as socialising with previous grad cohorts which were all really good. However because there were quite a few interns it was hard to feel like you got to know everybody and some cliques did emerge in different departments quite early on, although some of the team events have broken down these groups towards the end.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The internship was in London so naturally it was quite expensive to live and socialise here. I managed to rent a room relatively cheaply and the work canteen is reasonably priced for lunch!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Most people from the company tend to go to the same places after work so you're guaranteed to bump into someone you know if you go for a drink, either another intern or someone from your team.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company Sports & Social committee is really active and encouraging for everyone to get involved.

    4/5
