The Role
I found the placement exciting, enjoyable and challenging. It exceeded all of my expectations, and made me certain that a career in City law was a good choice to make.
Everyone seemed pleased to have me around. I was given the impression that people were genuinely grateful for my input, and I was trusted to go and get on with whatever tasks I was given.
Everyone was very friendly and eager to explain things to me and generally have a candid chat about the firm and what they did.
At times I was very busy, but in an exciting and challenging way, I never felt as though I was swamped with work and anything was beyond me if I worked hard.
For the work I was given, I had a lot of responsibility for. As you would expect though, I was only given work that was appropriate for me to do.
As far as my degree studies, this was very much practically based, so there was not much of a relationshi to my studies, which were mostly academic. In terms of other skills however, I learnt the importance of organisation, document presentation and furthered my research skills greatly.
The Company
A good friendly atmosphere, with an appropriate degree of seriousness.
It was organised seamlessly, a perfect balance of work/social events, all coordinated very well.
The firm were very clear that the firm's future lawyers were recruited at this stage, so they were eager to attract me to the firm and involve me in its activities in the limited way that they could.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a training contract with them, which I subsequently accepted.
The Culture
We all got on very well and went out together often.
City prices
Fairly ok, some nice bars and restaurants
Although I didn't, I'm sure had I expressed an interest, I would have been able to participate in any of the CSR activities that were going on in my fortnight vacation scheme.
