The Role
I was allowed to get working at client sites from the second day onwards and got some great experience in a lot of different areas of audit.
Everyone was very welcoming and patient when I asked questions. Everyone was very friendly.
Whenever support was needed it was given and my supervisors regularly assured that I was coping well.
It varied, due to the nature of audit you sometimes find yourself waiting for information from clients but there's usually a lot to be getting on with if you get involved.
Gradually more as it progressed and I showed that I was capable of the tasks. By the end I was allowed to arrange to meet clients independently, acquire the correct information and finish the work on my own.
Having finished my degree already that isn't relevant. However, I've been offered a graduate placement with KPMG in audit so I'll definitely be building upon the skills that I picked up during my internship.
The Company
At one of the client sites we worked on hot desks in an open plan building. The atmosphere was hardly electrifying but I had no issues with it.
Fairly well, there were some minor problems with the laptops and connectivity. Also, at the second client site there was an initial issue with the quantity of work provided by the client which required some chasing up.
There was never time for independent training set aside apart from during the induction. All the training was really just independently done on client sites, picking up skills and ideas as you went along. I think this is the best way to develop employees, especially during a fairly short internship, so I'd say there was a good amount of investment from the firm.

I was offered a place on the graduate scheme after completing a short interview after the placement. I'm under the impression that if you perform well during the internship then you're likely to be offered a role, however I couldn't confirm that with any certainty.
The Culture
The placement students were split up into separate client sites over the course of the internship so there wasn't any social scene. I got the chance to meet the others on the first day and have a chat though.
I commuted from my home with my family so there were no costs for me in that regard. Socialising isn't particularly expensive in Nottingham either.
Being a student in Nottingham, I can say that the nightlife is excellent. I don't think it's great if you're a local, though. There are some nice bars around but the clubbing scene isn't really up to much outside of the student nights.
There were some but they were mainly for graduates. I'm sure interns would have been welcome but having not had a chance to meet any substantial amount of the employees I don't think they would have been overly enjoyable.
