The Role
I greatly enjoyed the internship, I got a great insight into what it is like working at KPMG. The experience I got was helpful in deciding what I want to do in the future. The length of the internship was perfect as it allowed me to still have time to relax during the summer and go on holiday with my family.
I felt greatly valued, I was immediately accepted as on of the team. We went on a team lunch on the first day where I got to know everyone and if I needed help everyone was happy to point me in the right direction. By the end of the internship I felt the team trusted me and would assign me tasks without needing to check to see if I had done it correctly.
I was given great support. Everything was explained clearly and little tricks on excel to help my work were showed to me. On the first day I had an introduction where I got a small summary of audit and about KPMG's values. The additional information about life at KPMG after you graduate was invaluable.
I was kept very busy however I was always given time for a lunch break and finished promptly and 5. The latest time I finished was 5 30 which was due to extra work I took on myself. On Friday KPMG have a program in the summer called Jumpstart which meant I could leave at 3. This was invaluable in ensuring a great work/life balance.
I was given more responsibility throughout the internship and actually more than I would have expected throughout the internship. Understandably my responsibility was limited due to my lack of knowledge and experience in audit.
At the moment it is difficult to assess if the skills I earned will be helpful for my studies but they certainly will be for a graduate job in finance and simply a genuine understanding. The organisational skills that I earned will be helpful in all of life as well as working in a professional environment.
The Company
It was very relaxed which helped me to settle in. Whilst relaxed it was still professional and everyone remained hard working the whole time. At the same time nobody was ever too busy to help with any queries I had, and drink runs helped me to get to know everyone better.
The internship was very well organised when I was on site and during the month that I was there. However, before the internship started some of the emails and literature I received was slightly deceiving. I got sent two emails by accident that I had to query which was disappointing.
I didn't get any personal training however the help I received from KPMG employees was very useful. The company invested time into me in terms of helping me to set up my technology and guide me through some of the technical process.

The employment prospects are very appealing and as a result I have accepted a full time graduate job with KPMG.
The Culture
I didnt really experience the social scene mainly due to the length of my placement and the fact that many of my colleagues were away at college, on holiday or at a client.
I lived at home so I can't comment on the cost of living however socialising is reasonably expensive.
I didn't experience the night life in the area.
Due to the length of my internship my opportunities to get involved were limited. 1 month was not enough time to get involved with a lot of activities however the prompt finishes at 5 meant that I was able to continue playing cricket or tennis in the evening.
