About You
It was interesting and enjoyable. But there was too many presentations and talks which were very dull. I'd much rather have actually gone out into the offices and shadowed someone for a day, so we can ask all the questions we have.
KPMG were generally good at taking care of us. The application process was relatively simple and pain-free.
It was more a case of being 'talked at' rather than a valuable insight into what the job entails. It was still enjoyable, but i'd have liked to have had more of an insight, and to be able to talk to people on the job and see the working environment.
I wasn't really particularly useful because It was just an insight programme.
The Company
Everything was very well organised, and ran like clockwork.
The presentations were very dull, and the people who gave them were grey and square. It's a real shame, because it put me off many aspects of consulting, because of the people who gave the talks.
They chose not to take me on to the summer vacation programme, so they didn't chose to invest in me any more than anyone else.
It was a useful insight, but I don't feel it was as valuable as it could have been. 2 days is a long time, and I personally found the business game on the second day to be a waste of time. I'd much rather have spent the time shadowing someone.
I learnt a lot about the corporate responsibility of the company. But I'm not sure how much they actually do invest in this, because later on (after the telephone interview for the vacation programme), they left me waiting for weeks to find out the outcome of my interview. They focused on how much people mean to them, yet they kept me waiting for a very long time.
Useful because it told me that I don't want to work for this company, or in this sector. But I'm very glad I went, because I've learnt that.
Everything Else
There was no issues with expenses or getting my money reimbursed. Things were relatively speedy.
This is were the real value of the programme lies for me. It was great to meet people and network. Even now - 6 months on, I'm still in contact with people I met during the programme.
As above - i really found these useful.
We were not told much about the work/life balance. Besides from KPMG's corporate responsibility, we weren't told much about how long the employees work, and what they can do outside the job.
Although there was issue with the programme, I still found it very valuable.
