The Role
The internship was absolutely amazing since the first week I came up until my last week. Everybody was incredibly friendly and helpful and the team I was assigned to was a perfect match for my skill set at that time.
From the beginning of the internship they made me feel as an equal part of the team. I was assigned real work and they always made sure that I am contributing in some way. I was not left in the corner working on some small insignificant project just to feel that I am doing something.
I had an initial meeting with my line manager at the start of my internship to talk about my aims and expectations. We have identified what things I would like to learn or improve and afterwards we had a meeting once a week to make sure that my self-development goes as expected. Red Gate really wants to make sure that you get the most of your summer there and will help you as much as possible to improve the skills you are interested in.
The environment is quite fast paced but as I was really enjoying my work there it sometimes did not occur to me that 8-9 hours just passed by. Red Gate does not have any set working hours apart from few core hours in the middle of the day. Aside from that it is as busy as I made it for myself. If I wanted to work more, I just needed to ask, there is always something to do, but I never felt overwhelmed by the amount of work.
Whatever team you are assigned to, you are taken as an equal member. I was assigned to a real task on my second day but as Red Gate does quite lot of things in pairs, I was never left alone with a difficult problem. The amount of support from other members (dropping their stuff and helping me) was amazing.
I am quite happy to say that in 10 weeks here I have learnt more that in last year and a half at university. The fact that I was working on real stuff with real developers with years of experience allowed me to learn things very quickly as I needed to use them straight away, there on that day.
The Company
The office is full of intelligent and friendly people with variety of hobbies with one common love for nerf guns:) ...leading to office nerf wars. Wherever I went people were smiling and were happy to chat about anything. It is a really great environment to work in.
As Red Gate is doing this for many years, they do know what they are doing. Everything was very well organized and people responsible for the internship made sure that I am happy and everything is going well via regular meetings.
I had an opportunity to take online courses if I wanted that the company would be quite happy to reimburse me for but I did not feel that it was necessary as my self-development was going great even by just working there.

I would definitely love to work at Red Gate as I think it is a great place to start your career. As a first job it would allow me to carry on learning and improving myself even after university.
The Culture
Everybody was very friendly and quite a lot of people there were just few years older than me. They organised and intern evening out for us, with dinner and bowling and in general people were quite keen on going for a beer and having a chat about literally anything.
Cambridge, not as expensive as London.
N/A
There are multiple groups in Red Gate I could join in depending on my interests. Anything from football, Frisbee, 3D printing, up to "just going to a pub group"
