The Role
RATING: 8/10 I enjoyed my internship tremendously. The plethora of activities that comprised the internship program was all encompassing in terms of learning new concepts, real life trading strategies and interpretation of market events.
RATING: 7/10 Collegues at UBS were very friendly and approachable. Despite bing busy during market hours, every employee was ready to spend time explaining their work or answer questions regrading their desks.
RATING: 8/10 Guidance was provided at every step, be it with respect to our intern activities or daily assignments. Furthermore, there was never a time when guidance was asked for and wasn't provided.
RATING: 5/10 The level of busy-ness depends on the desk and people that you interact with. Some desks assign multiple projects and tasks, while others are more of small daily tasks to be done in a few hours. I had a taste of both- some tasks were needed to be completed immediatley so that traders could implement the output in their activities whereas the others were more long term over a few weeks, both for my learning as well as for the desk to make us of.
RATING: 7/10 I was given some responsibility to perform tasks which the trading desk could use in their strategies- such as performing research, both qualitative and quantitative whose output could be incorporated into the desks' trades. Besides that I was also working on a project which looked more at business and marlket share expansion. So overall, there was good amount of responsibility delegated to me as an intern.
RATING: 8/10 The skills developed at this internship can be applicable to both personal and professional life. The amount of interpersonal skills that have been developed here is tremendous- righ tfromapproaching people of different temperament to being involved in several group activities and engaging in time management to ensure that we are on top of the intern activities as well as our jobs at the desk and also maintaining a work-life balance- all of them shall find immense application in the future!
The Company
RATING: 6/10 Some desks were more reserved and no-nonsense of sorts while the others were more open and involved. So the degree of interactiveness was desk and people specific. I had a mix of both the types during my two rotations
RATING: 9/10 The internship program was very well set up. There were so many activities, teach-in session,s lunch sessions and networking events and each one of them was enriching in its own way
RATING: 5/10 In terms of traning, we had a quick session onbasic financial concepts and Reuters. There was also the compulsory compliance traning to be completed but that was more for us to be informed nof rather than learn- but that was necessary and enough for a 9 week internship The Gradute program has a great training structure in place, is what I have heard.
RATING: 9/10 I enjoyed the culture and work at the firm during my internship and future employment prospects are very appealing.
The Culture
RATING: 5/10 Fellow interns made for a great company, but due to our varying working hours, we weren't able to establish a strong social scene. Despiet that, we did go out a few times on Fridays for drinks.
RATING: 9/10 UBS is at Liverpool Street and there are innumerable eateries about the place. You'll never fall short of options! =D I personally stayed in my student accommodation itself since I was studying in London at that time and my residencial contract was still on, but the cost of living is decent and there are affordable housing for students about 20-30mins walk away.
RATING: 8/10 UBS is very close to Shoreditch that has a lot of nightlife options. The internship didn't allow us to have a nightlife, since we had to get to bed to be up th enext day, but there were some good options nearby and I hope to try them out soon.
RATING: 5/10 I think 9 weeks of internship are less to really explore this option, but we did have a community exercise where we worked with school kids to build a business model and enhance presentation skills.
