The Role
I really enjoyed my time at UBS as it allowed me to meet new people with similar interests to me, broaden my skillset and improve my understanding of the bank as a whole.
The colleagues I worked with were all very supportive and understanding of my lack of knowledge when I first began. They were always willing to help and I felt completely comfortable in approaching them with any issues I had.
In some regards I felt like other individual's in my team took a more managerial role than my allocated rotation managers. This was generally because my rotation manager's were extremely busy and therefore, it fell into the hands of another employee. However, my manager for the entirity of my internship was extremely supportive and provided me with regular feedback.
This varied with each day - but to begin with I was not allocated much work and instead had meetings with members of my team to understand what it is they do. However, over time this did increase, but I still felt like my time was often wasted.
The responsibility I was given also varied dependent on who had given the task. However, I would say that more often than not I was just assisting in work as apposed to individually being given something to do that required pure responsibility.
I believe that the skills I have learnt will be extremely useful no matter where my career ends up! The skills I learnt were not only technical, we were given numerous opportunities to network and communicate with other employees and I believe that this is a skill that will stay with me throughout my degree and future career.
The Company
The atmosphere during my first rotation was relatively quiet (many were on holiday) but I do think this made my first 4 weeks less enjoyable as there weren't so many people around to talk to. However, the atmosphere in my second rotation was great - everyone was extremely friendly and always approaching one another with queries and questions but also for more general discussions, which gave a really friendly environment.
This internship was extremely structured, with presentations nearly every week and numerous talks we were required to attended. It was extremely well organised in that regard but perhaps less so when specifically looking at each rotation and the structure within these.
We had a whole week of training for this program - this involved detailed information regarding our specific departments but also the bank as whole. It prepared us all for our time here.

I really like the culture of UBS and therefore can definitely see myself here in the future. It is extremely warm and friendly and there are numerous perks that come with being an employee here!
The Culture
There was a really good social scene whilst I was here. I have made many friends who I am sure I will stay in contact with. Everyone was extremely keen to make sure that our time here wasn't all work!
I was lucky enough to live at home with my family and therefore, these expenses were low. However, socialising/eating etc. was expensive and if I had not been privileged enough to live with my parents, then I would have definitely had difficulty in budgeting.
The nightlife was great with numerous bars and pubs around (expensive!!)
There were community events that we had the option of being involved in, but apart from this there was little opportunity to take part in other activities.
