The Role
My time here at Microsoft has been one of the most valuable and encouraging atmosphere I have ever encountered. It is utterly amazing how much responsibility they put on a placement student, this speaks volume on how much they value new talent and nurturing new ideation/creation.
From day one I was made to feel part of the team. Valued in the sense that my contribution to the company actually shaped our revenue and budgets.
Fantastic support available.
Varied like any business, at peak times of the year extremely busy, always something to proactively pitch.
The first 6 months of my placement consisted my role as a EMEA Business Development Manager – this meant that I had multiple markets to take into account when finalising plans and executions for a great campaign delivery. I was then entrusted with looking after the Italian market wholly as well as supporting multinational markets. The second half of placement consisted of focusing 70% of my time within the UK market and still owning the Italian market. Tremendous trust and responsibility.
Skills that will last a lifetime.
The Company
A friendly and open atmosphere. Team members were there for support and guidance when needed, professional attitude to clients and media agencies.
The overall placement year scheme that Microsoft offers is extremely well organised and thought off. I was the first placement student that my team had, therefore, as with anything learning’s happened first hand.
Microsoft invests a ton of money on employee development. Within my time at the company I enrolled on two courses, the first (Brilliant at the basics course) and the second (Sales Excellence course). I was also given the opportunity to complete the MOS exams for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook 2010.

I would love to get back into the company, if the opportunity is not there with the Xbox team. My next options are to try for a client facing role: Partnerships, Marketing, Advertising and definitely Sales.
The Culture
I lived with four other placement students in London. A good social scene when we could afford it. Prices in London are crazy.
London = Expensive. However company night's out always helped.
Incredible.
Yes, from socialising after work with team mates to signing up to some of the clubs - such as badminton.
