The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with EY. My favourite parts of the internship were attending client meetings and lunches, the induction in Manchester with all the interns from the regional offices and producing a technical presentation for senior staff members.
I felt valued in the company and that all my colleagues wanted me there. When I asked questions they were more than happy to help and I was invited to all the team social events just like everyone else in the team.
I was given plenty of support and guidance. Everyone was really keen for me to keep asking questions and were more than happy to help, the executive director of my team kept asking me to ask more questions in fact!
There were only a few days where I wasn't very busy but neither were my team, that is just the nature of the work. Overall I was given lots of interesting work though.
I was given a mixture of responsibilities on different projects, some projects were technically challenging, some I had to talk to clients at lunches and some were just day to day activities. But all of it was relevant and really showed me what it is like to work at EY.
I do an Accounting and Finance degree so working at EY in the Corporate Tax department was highly relevant and I felt like I learnt a considerable amount in the 6 weeks I was there. The presentation that I and one other intern had to present to 14 very senior people in the team, including partners, directors and senior managers, really developed my technical and presentation skills and even though it was terrifying I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to do this.
The Company
The office had a really friendly atmosphere and we went on many team lunches, we even went to outdoor laser tag for our team social! Everyone was really approachable so if you had any questions people were more than happy to help.
Overall it was organised very well, the induction was seamless and I was always kept busy. My counsellor kept in touch with me and we had regular catch ups on how I thought the internship was going so if you had any queries you could raise them then. The only time when it wasn't very well organised was the last event, originally we were meant to travel to Manchester to meet with all the other regional offices for a ball however 3 weeks into the internship this was cancelled so we ended up having a dinner at a restaurant near our regional office with the Southampton interns. I thought this could have been organised better but these things happen!
I felt like they invested a lot of time and effort into me with training and development in the short period I was there, though the work and support I was given.

Very appealing, EY offers a great 3 year graduate scheme where you become a qualified chartered accountant at the end and gain very valuable work experience with a great team.
The Culture
Really good social scene, we went for drinks after work, lunches during work and the last night was really fun!
I lived at home so the commute cost me £6.70 per day with a rail card, I bought lunch everyday so that cost about £5 a day but obviously you could bring your own. I probably spent about £25 a week on socialising (drinks and food) but I spent a lot more on the last week!
Reading has a good night life, many bars, clubs and restaurants.
Loads of opportunities, from socialising with fellow interns to the team at work, there was always something going on.
